Sponsorship Costs
Separate costs are associated with:
- Becoming an approved sponsor
- Nominating a visa applicant for a 482 visa
- Paying the Skilling Australians Fund levy
Government sponsorship costs are listed on the Home Affairs website linked here. Fees are subject to change and a credit card surcharge may apply.
Businesses are required to pay for all costs associated with becoming a sponsor, nominating and sponsoring an applicant.
These costs cannot be transferred to the visa holder or their family members.
Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) Levy
The amount businesses must pay depends on their turnover and the length of the employee’s proposed 482 Visa period in Australia.
The levy payment is tax deductible and payable in full at the time of lodging a nomination application.
The purpose of the levy is for employers to contribute to local skills development by paying a nomination training contribution charge.
Employers must not pass the levy on to the visa holder.
Calculating the SAF Levy
The amount businesses need to pay for the levy depends on the:
- Size of the sponsoring business and
- Proposed period of stay of the overseas worker in Australia.
| Business Size | Applicable SAF Levy for the 482 Visa |
| Small (annual turnover less than $10 million) | AUD$1200 per year or part thereof |
| Other business (annual turnover of $10 million or more) | AUD$1800 per year or part thereof |
For example: A business with an annual turnover of more than AUD$10 million per year that wishes to nominate a 482 Visa worker for a period of 4 years would pay a levy of AUD$7,200 (4 years x AUD$1,800).
Sponsors with a Labour Agreement in place must also pay the levy.
Limited exemptions apply.
Migration Agent Costs
Migration agent costs apply in addition to sponsorship, nomination and visa application fees.
